A sad trend in America…

October 20th, 2009

I do believe that our country is great.  It is full of great people with great potential to do great things.  But looking at today’s youth, I am fearful where we’re headed.  I was a very mis-guided teenager once upon a time, but I do not ever remember wishing physical harm on another human being.  Where has our world gone so wrong that teenagers are setting their friends on fire for revenge?  Or that an honor roll kid walking home gets jumped and beaten to death?  How did parents fail at guiding these young perpetrators to make these devastating decisions between right and wrong?  Or what could have helped them be more successful?  What are we missing in society?

A recent study indicates that adolescents who show violent behavior and tendencies are much more likely to be involved in domestic violence as adults.  Not surprising. But the key is to recognize this behavior in their youth. We must be able to intervene in their rising development of violence.  Teachers aren’t equipped to know all of the details about every student, but they see the clues and symptoms.  The parents must take responsibility of guiding their children.

Where can a parent take a child to work on growing their understanding of right and wrong? Church. Take them to church. And if your religion doesn’t put an emphasis on these areas of social responsibility, then find a community center. But my God, we cannot continue on like this…  </rant>

Real life meets work life

October 9th, 2009

Last night Austin had a crazy storm.  My co-worker couldn’t even back his car out because an enormous tree branch blocked his driveway.  (note the distressed look on his son’s face)

Finally he was able to make it to work and into his cubicle.  And then, just as cruel as nature…. it happened again.

Must be nice…

The three loved ones in my life that I admire most live extraordinary lives.  Each day is full of new adventures, exploration, and even new cuisine.  They are pampered and well kept and have every luxury they could possibly want.  But they do get upset, and when they do, they cry or whine… with no care about what other people may think.  Can you imagine feeling that free?!  And most of all, they are full of love, and quite liberal with their snuggles   =)

A weekend at the creekhouse

September 3rd, 2009

Heading down to my Dad’s creekhouse tomorrow (Caney Creek in Sargent, TX, aka BFE)… looking forward to spending time with the nephews and the sun.  It’s been too long on both fronts.  Also included will be some fishin’, poker playin’ and political smack to be sure.  Here is a pic of Connor with the new signs at the creek house.
